Opal Cutting

The art of cutting and polishing semi precious rocks and minerals to produce cabochons.
The student will learn to take slab material, select the area to work, cut out the design, grind to shape, and polish to a deep shine finish. The class meets once per week for eight weeks. Junior and Adult classes offered. Cost $35 per 8 week session. Junior classes require parent or guardian involvement.

The art of constucting jewelry and other items from stock silver. Utilizes layout,  cutting, soldering, buffing, & polishing techniques. Can produce mountings for the cabochons created in the Lapidary class. Successful completion of the first class required for more advanced classes. Cost $35 per 8 week session. Additional costs for purchase of silver stock.
An advanced Lapidary class, focusing on precious opal. The student learns to evaluate a rough piece of opal as to the optimum cutting plane and depth to best show the fire and color of the stone. Doublet and triplet construction is taught. Cost $35 per 8 week session. Student must provide his own opal rough.
